Paul McCartney up on stage singing Beatles hits, Katy Perry swapping stories with Christina Aguilera, Dakota Johnson hand-in-hand with Chris Martin in the crowd, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Emma Roberts, and Vanessa Hudgens at the bar next to a heavily-pregnant Miranda Kerr, and Kate Hudson on a mom-daughter date with Goldie Hawn: This was the scene at Stella McCartney’s party presenting her Fall/Winter 2018 men’s and womenswear collection at SIR studios in LA on Tuesday night.

As models posed around the party wearing fluffy, oversized faux leopard fur coats, bold printed midi dresses and blanket jackets with bouncy platform sneakers and oxfords, we took the opportunity to chat up some of the boldface names in the crowd. “McCartney’s clothes are in between a feminine and a masculine. It’s sexy, and it’s got that bit of masculine in it and I love that,” Molly Sims told ELLE.com.

Right after Katy Perry finished thanking David Lynch for changing her life, and chatting to Elon Musk’s mom Maye, we grabbed the singer to find out why she loves McCartney’s designs.

“It’s so easy to wear her clothes,” Perry told said, “and her cuts this season especially are just so fun, so easy, so beautiful, so architectural.”

McCartney’s style is also instantly recognizable–something beloved by designer Clare Vivier. “I’m a huge fan of very strong female designers,” she said. “She has a very strong aesthetic, she always has. She’s a very strong personality, and I love that she has this mix with glam and street. She just nails it, because she’s a woman, and she’s knows what women want to wear.”

While some may think that McCartney’s choice to show in LA is a bit unusual, this isn’t the first time the designer’s chosen this locale. Some would argue, in fact, that a West Coast choice is spot-on.

“LA has an amazing creative energy right now,” Vivier said. “It’s becoming more and more the center of fashion. I know that those are huge shoes to fill, since we all think of New York as the capital of fashion in the U.S., but I think there’s some really great designers coming out of LA right now. I think there’s a real freedom to designing in LA, and even showing in LA. You don’t feel like you have to adapt to any norms, and I think designers really appreciate that.”
